They teach you maths and grammar, but schools don’t cover the basics of how to set up an air compressor. Want to know what kind of environment to look for? What steps do you need to take? Or any other ways you might be able to prepare? This simple, straightforward and user-friendly guide has the answers.
However, just like school, this guide is not going to tell you everything you need to know or assure you of a perfect installation. That assurance only comes when a certified technician performs your installation for you. The most important starting point is a clean, well-organised space. You’ll want your air compressor installed on a sturdy, level floor, with enough space around it to ensure good ventilation and air flow. At the same time, you’ll want to have room to move when working and performing maintenance.
Arrange electrical cables in such a way that they’re tidy, out of the way and not going to be damaged by your compressor or anyone who needs access to it. It might not seem like a big deal right now, but think of the years to come: how many times you’ll trip over loose cables or be annoyed by them getting in the way?
It’s not just the air compressor you need to think about. You’ll also be installing an air filter, air dryer and probably drainage or a water trap. Make sure they’re easily accessed, cleaned and replaced. Future-You appreciates it.
Are there any additional bits and pieces that need to be installed in your system? Anything from an air regulator to a VSD dryer. This is probably a good time to set them up and check you’ll have adequate room and accessibility.
Afterwards, it’s time to install your auxiliary tank. Once it’s in place, please check it’s installed correctly and then double-check everything else. Do the same after every maintenance and servicing check.
Checked everything? Great! Now it’s time to actually start your air compressor in order to test everything again. This time, you’ll be looking and listening for malfunctions, pressure drops and of course, leaks. A leak detector is a huge help here, but also check the pressure gauge is showing approximately the same pressure as it should. If not? Keep in mind that there will be fluctuations based on the time of the year and even the weather when you’re checking it. But major differences may indicate leaks, or that the pressure gauge is not working correctly or possibly not installed as it should be. Make sure all wires, including the earth, are all correctly connected.
The biggest tip here? Use a certified technician for the installation.
