One of the by-products of compressing air is condensation. Usually, condensation is little more than water and not difficult to dispose of. But in oil-lubricated compressors, you end up with oil mixed into the condensation. It’s not okay to run this stuff down the sewer. In fact, it’s illegal to do that in most countries around the world. Reason? It’s bad for the environment. And we mean really, really bad for the environment.
You’ve undoubtedly seen footage of oil spills and the havoc they wreak. They stop oxygen from getting to the plants and animals that live in water while also having a terrible effect on the insulating nature of fur and feathers. In other words? Oil kills plants and animals. We know that oil spills usually involve with more oil than you’re dealing with. But that’s no excuse. Just one litre of oil will contaminate one million litres of water. For legal, environmental and healthy reasons, please, please dispose of your oil properly.
The only way to properly dispose of an oil-water mix? You first need to remove the oil. Sound like the perfect job for an oil-water separator! They remove the oil from the water. You’re then able to dispose of the water without hurting the environment and to bring the oil to an appropriate recycling, processing or other treatment centre.
In the past, even with an oil-water separator, removing oil from waste water was a highly demanding process. This is because oil-water separators required a lot of attention – and cleaning – to keep them operating at their best.
At ALUP, we know you probably don’t like cleaning. And we know that if you don’t like cleaning, you definitely won’t like cleaning oil out of an oil-water separator. So we did something about it. We put our thinking caps on, scratched our heads and developed a better oil-water separator. We call it the OWS 4-900. It’s designed to be more effective and user-friendly than older oil-water separators.
The first big difference? It’s super-effective. This is thanks to a dual-stage treatment process we have introduced. It uses polypropylene and activated carbon or organoclay to remove the oil. This results in oil content of as little as 5 parts per million. This will meet the most stringent environmental laws.
On top of that? It’s convenient. It will separate oil if your oil-water mix hasn’t naturally separated yet. In other words, there’s no need to wait when you collect oily-water, you just throw it straight into the separator and press the ‘Go’ button. Faster, more convenient and more effective for you.
Now for the really exciting part: the servicing and clean up are simpler with the OWS 4-900. It uses a cartridge system. Take the old cartridge out, put the new cartridge in. Quick, easy and a lot less messy. The service intervals are wonderfully long too. You only need to service your machine after every 4000 hours of use.
